Overexposure

Like everyone else who has a credit card and doesn't live under a rock, I had read about the CardSystems security breach that "exposed" up to 40 million credit card accounts. Particularly disturbing was the statement that most banks wouldn't reissue a card until they had evidence of active fraud, because it costs too much. (In other words, not until the thieves have already charged their dream vacation to your card.) But, I didn't think it might actually affect me.

Thus I was both startled and relieved today to receive a phone call from my credit union. Yes, my card is one of those that may have been compromised. No, there are no fraudulent charges (yet). Regardless, the credit union is blocking the card by the end of today, and will be sending me a new card forthwith. Fortunately it appears that I don't have any automatic payments coming due on the card within the next week, so I'll have time to change those payment setups.

I'm thankful that I've got a card from a credit union that believes in locking the barn door before the horse is stolen. What's in your wallet?
