Satellite Map Googling
A map with street names on it might be more useful for actually figuring out how to get someplace, but Google's satellite view option on their map pages is kinda neat.
This is a piece of the satellite picture of my neighborhood. The white arrow (which I added) is pointing to my house. I find the new perspective strangely intriguing. You can zoom out, scroll around... I "drove" all over the city at the highest zoom level looking for landmarks, stupid things like the Home Depot, various malls, the Town Center tower, and other places I have lived.
Not all areas have such detail, but if you're in a city it's worth a look. Just type in an address or even just a street name with the city and state, and switch from map view to satellite view. The address marker that Google places on the image isn't terribly accurate, and it tends to obscure things right where you want to look. I got it out of the way by typing in a nearby address instead of my own. BTW, I upsized this image in Photoshop (it's twice the size of the highest zoom).

Which direction in the picture is the front of the house... and which is the back? It's kinda hard to tell... because it looks like there's a single row of houses between two streets.

The arrow is pointing at the back of the house. You can see the driveways of the row of houses in front (south of the houses). And you're right, there is a single row of houses between two streets. :-)
Funny, I have the same thing sitting on my desktop at the moment - a satellite snapshot of my downtown life!
Next time, you should definitely photoshop in your car and pets.
Actually, depending on when this satellite picture was taken, it's entirely possible that that's my old car sitting by the curb at the corner of the driveway.
