Summertime

Not long ago I blogged a satellite picture of my neighborhood, pointing out my house. Now picture the back yard, with the fence I built last year, and space cleared out under the photinias that used to droop down to the ground. The perfect spot for a hammock...

You'll have to imagine me in the hammock, seeing as how I didn't have anyone around to take the picture and I'm too damned lazy to try to figure out how to take a timed shot with my camera. (Pay no attention to the weird duckboards under the hammock frame. They're just some pieces of the fence I replaced. They're good for keeping things off the ground, like my firewood pile and the hammock.)

A can of Coke, a bag of Pepperidge Farm Mint Milanos, a few magazines, and a hammock in the shade. Ah, summer...

I myself am a little jealous.

I used to have a house, but I sold that in preperation for the eventual financial chaos that might befall me based on where my paycheck comes from. Now I have moved into an apt.

Dont' get me wrong I like the apt well enough. But I used to have a garden, a large garden that was finally coming into it's own with a multitude of plants that made me smile no matter what happened that day at work.

And space, space enough for a hammock. A hammock that was set to happen this year. Along with a screened in porch...

Enjoy that hammock for as many days as you can, don't take the hammock for granted.

If I had that hammock I would take a book out there and read it from cover to cover,

I read in your blog that you had sold your house; kinda figured it was because of the, shall we say, uncertain prospects for that paycheck. Once you've had your own house, going back to an apartment is rough. (Believe me, I know, having left my home of 25 years to come down here.) I feel for you. Hopefully you'll be able to have your own place again wherever you go next.

I'm hoping it doesn't come down to selling for me. Fact is, my mortgage payments are about the same as my apartment rent was, so even if I was still renting, my finances would be about the same. Still, I haven't found a job yet and I've been looking for four months, so anything is possible.

I hope by this time next year, we've all got stable jobs that we enjoy, and a place for a hammock.
