Decode this

OK, this is obscure. Really obscure. The following is a coded message from a novel. A true code, not a cipher. So you aren't going to be able to actually decipher it (you'll pardon the expression); you'd need to have read the book to recognize it.

Blime zax fernmo appentish wacko lushford.

Each code "word" represents one English word, but the number of letters in each code word bears no relation to the number of letters in the corresponding English word. [Note: the fourth word should possibly be spelled "apentish". It's been a long time since I saw this, and I haven't been able to find the text to check. However, it should make no difference in your ability to solve it.]

I told you it was obscure.

So the questions are:

1. What is the translation of this code?
2. What book series is it from?
   
3. Bonus points for identifying the specific book in the series.

No other clues, except to say this is a prime example of the kind of arcane and utterly useless trivia that my mind has retained for around 45 years. I don't think I could eradicate it from my brain if I tried. And I just want to see if anyone else remembers this kind of thing, because the thought that it's just me is rather frightening.
