A condo for the birds?

Even though I've lived in Virginia Beach for over four years now, the times that I had actually been to the beach itself -- i.e., the oceanfront -- I could count on the fingers of one hand. That is, until I started my current job, which is located about three blocks from the oceanfront. Now, I've taken to sporadic lunchtime walks along the boardwalk and/or the beach, both of which are virtually deserted at this time of the year, save for the seagulls.

Not only do I need the exercise (and an incentive not to spend the entire day staring at my computer screen), but I'm hoping to rekindle my former enthusiasm for photography by finding something to photograph each time I go out. And you, my lucky readers, will get to see what catches my photographic eye! Herewith some of my first efforts.

The shortest route to the beach is a beeline down Cavalier Drive, past the Cavalier Hotel. (Some of you may recall this as the location of one of our World Championships in years gone by.) On a walk last week I noticed this unusual pair of birdhouse condos along the drive back of the old hotel. Even more interesting in closeup, I think.

I bet you can hardly wait to see what I come up with next.
