The randomness of cyberspace pancakes

What do these words have in common?

papoose, refrigeration, eucalyptus, cyberspace, escutcheon, rapscallion, bitchiness, cowflap, randomness, pancakes, snowshoes, carwash

Give up? They're a random selection of 12 of the more than 25,000 English words that can be spelled using chemical symbols. Thanks to Nandor's Exhaustive Chemical Words Pages, created by Mark Nandor, a mathematics and physics teacher in Ohio, you too can collect vaguely ransom-notish-looking words that could be strung together, magnetic-poetry-like, into... well, poetic ransom notes, maybe. The site also includes listings of 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 "chemical word squares", where each row and each column spells out a word.

For those who care about such things, here are spellings of each of those 12 words showing which symbols can be used. (In many cases there are other alternatives using different chemical symbols; I just selected one for each.) Identifying those symbols is left as an exercise for the reader.
