Screwing too tightly

From the instructions for assembling a small table:

Please do not screw too tightly before you finish assembling.
(It was repeated in four other languages as well, but I doubt that the translations convey quite the same connotation.)

Which puts me in mind of something an instrument technician who worked for me once said. Dolores was attempting to install a bracket on a pH meter, with limited success; it appeared that either the socket on the meter was the wrong size, or the threads were stripped, and it wouldn't tighten down. Frustrated, this white-haired great-grandmother (who was about my mother's age, and was not a sweet little old lady) proclaimed, "I could stand here and screw all day and it wouldn't do any good!"

My assistant and I were practically in convulsions behind Dolores's back.

Maybe the instructions for the bracket should have carried the above admonition.
