Belated BSG buff

For some reason I always seem to be the last one to get interested in a TV show and end up having to play some serious catch-up. For example, I didn't start watching Star Trek: TNG until season six, for crying out loud. While TNG didn't have any true extended "story arcs", it could still be a bit difficult to understand an episode featuring, say, Q, or the Duras sisters, if you hadn't seen what came before. As a result, I more or less caught up in reverse, watching a friend's videotapes.

Well, running true to form, halfway through the 3rd season of Battlestar Galactica I finally decided to check it out. No, I didn't try watching current episodes -- I learned my lesson from TNG, and I knew BSG did have a story arc that I wouldn't want to see out of order.

So I started with the miniseries, rented from Netflix. I liked it so much that I sped through seasons 1, 2, and 2.5 as fast as I could turn around the discs (I've got the el cheapo one-at-a-time Netflix account). And even though I've been reading Dr. Heimlich's episode reviews all along, it really hadn't spoiled much for me; without the reinforcement of watching the episodes, the reviews didn't stick with me. (But I did go back and read them again after I had watched the episodes, and now they actually meant something to me!)

Only trouble is, now I have to wait for the first half of season 3 to come out on DVD to get my next BSG fix. I heard somewhere it was going to come out before the second half of the season airs -- does anyone know if that's true? 'Cause I'd really like to be able to get completely up to date on the story so I can start watching the new episodes as they air.

Why am I always such a frakkin' late adopter?
