And another one bites the dust

Knowing that my enthusiastic patronage was undoubtedly responsible for the demise of at least three Waldenbooks stores, I was dismayed but not altogether surprised to find that the reach of my bad shopping karma has now extended to the local Pepperidge Farm outlet store. Yes, the store that's been a convenient stone's throw away from my workplace and my source for a cheap supply of the cinnamon raisin bread that has been my breakfast of choice for ages -- now sports "Store Closing" signs in the windows, with October 27th declared to be the last day they'll be open. They told me the closest outlet will be Williamsburg. Given the price of gas, I'd have to buy an awful lot of bread and cookies to break even on a trip like that, even considering that the prices are often 1/3 to 1/2 off.

Drat.
