Kohr's no mohr
I've posted before about my peculiar brand of bad shopping karma, whereby my patronage of a business and enjoyment of its products only serves to ensure its demise. No fewer than six Waldenbooks stores that I personally and regularly frequented have bit the dust over the years, followed by the local Pepperidge Farm outlet.
And then last December, the Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard stand in Greenbrier Mall became the latest victim of the Curse of Major Rakal's Patronage.
Oh, I tried to hide my love of Kohr's mouth-watering frozen custard – once you've tried it, you're forever spoiled for ordinary soft-serve! – from the Gods of Store Closures; AFAIK the only time I had mentioned Kohr's in my blog was in a customer service rant four years ago. And until last October, I didn't actually frequent Kohr's with any regularity. I was a lot more likely to direct my mall shopping activities at Lynnhaven Mall, seeing as how it was within shouting distance of my last job, and it was hard for me to justify to myself a trip over to Greenbrier just for a Kohr's. But then the fates intervened and steered me to a new job in Chesapeake, where I was now (almost) within shouting distance of Greenbrier Mall, and suddenly there was no reason at why I couldn't stop at the mall after work just for a Kohr's. (Well, I always did a little shopping, too, but now a visit to Kohr's was an excuse to tack on some shopping as often as the other way around.)
Why couldn't the damned fates have called it good and left well enough alone? But no; about a week before Christmas I stopped by Greenbrier after work to check out some holiday specials, afterward circling around to Kohr's for a treat. To my considerable dismay, their storefront, which I had last visited no more than a week before, was signless, dark, and very empty. Kohr's was no mohr.
Just remember: If ever I recommend a business, restaurant, or product to you, and you have any interest in it whatsoever, don't delay trying it out. Mark my words, it's not long for this world.
